The design's uniqueness lies in its use of hanging fabric within the booth. Astound Group meticulously hung 576 individual orange/yellow strips, ensuring they remained unwrinkled. The team carried out intricate research and development to prevent the fabric banners from crinkling or hanging skewed.
Realization of the design involved defining the overall space, including client meeting rooms and social spaces, with these vertical pieces of material. Custom frames were built to ensure perfect symmetry in each piece, row, and column. The 50 ft. x 50 ft. booth space was maximized to approximately 40,000 cubic feet using 12 ft. and 20 ft. of custom constructed material.
The design aimed to drive brand awareness and re-appraisal of the Interac brand. The use of vertical materials allowed for a bold visual impact while keeping the space open and exploratory. The design successfully stood out from the crowd at the Collision Conference 2019, held in Toronto, Ontario, and instigated conversations about Interac's role as a technology and data solutions provider.
Despite the challenge of creating a visually unique booth that could compete with dozens of influential brands and companies at North America's fastest-growing tech conference, the Interac booth succeeded in drawing high volumes of traffic and leaving a lasting impression. About 600 ochre ribbons were suspended from 20' feet above the show floor, creating entryways, walking paths, and informal meeting spaces. The Interac space was considered the most talk-worthy space at the event, attended by over 20,000 people.
The Interac Collision Conference 2019 design is a testament to Astound Group's innovative approach to design and their ability to transform a traditional trade show booth into an interactive, engaging, and memorable experience. The design's success and recognition with the Silver A' Design Award highlight the potential for design to revolutionize the way brands interact with their audience at trade shows.
